Gynecomastia surgery

Gynecomastia — enlargement of male breast tissue — is common, frequently hereditary or hormonal, and a source of real distress for many men who avoid swimming, sport or fitted clothing because of it. Surgical correction removes the excess through a combination of liposuction for the fatty component and direct excision of firm glandular tissue through a small incision at the edge of the areola, where the scar becomes nearly invisible. The operation typically takes about an hour under local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia. A compression vest is worn for several weeks; most men return to work within days and to chest training at four to six weeks. The result — a flat, masculine chest contour — is permanent provided weight remains stable, and satisfaction rates with this operation are among the highest in aesthetic surgery.
